Teams and Countries We Support Mumbai, India Mumbai is the
wealthiest and one of the largest, fastest growing cities in India.
It is home to Bollywood, the largest film industry in the world
which influences virtually every corner of the nation. Each year
tens of thousands of people stream into Mumbai chasing their dreams
and looking for a better life. But sadly most of these inevitably
join the more than 10 million people that live in poverty stricken
slums. YWAM Mumbai was pioneered by YWAM Melbourne in 1997 and
currently run Discipleship Training Schools twice a year. Simon
Durairaj and Vah Caunivalu are both a part of our team in YWAM
Mumbai. The base has a intense passion for the lost and have team
working with the local church in the following ministries:
Bollywood Project Using this powerful medium to share God's love,
YWAM Mumbai is involved in writing movie scripts inspired by God to
impact not just the city but the whole nation with the message of
the kingdom. University Ministry Evangelism targeting tomorrow's
leaders, to see them transformed by the gospel and influencing
India towards love and righteousness. Krupa Kendra Caring for the
women and children of the red-light district. Bringing love, light
and hope to the deserted, cheated, wounded, enslaved and desperate
lives of commercial sex workers in Mumbai. Krupa Kendra runs a
day/night care centre for the children of prostitutes, and
organises summer camps and day trips for them. They also have
women's fellowships where sex workers can share their sorrows and
burdens ad receive comfort and acceptance. They also plan to have
homes for rescuing teenage girls from their mother's profession and
homes for HIV positive children. Mankhurd Slum Two preschools and a
newly formed church serve this vibrant area. Training Discipling
young Indians in the ways of God so they are equipped to bring the
gospel to a hurt and dying world. Zambia Zambia is home to 9.6
million people, 87% of which live below the poverty line. Disease,
malnutrition and soaring inflation are taking an enormous toll.
There are 650,000 orphans due to AIDS. It is hoped with the
cancellation of the nations debt by the World Bank, that Zambia can
begin to lift their nation out of poverty and bring a prosperous
future for its citizens. YWAM Melbourne has partnered with YWAM
Lusaka and regularly sends teams and resources to help their base
grow and fulfill their vision to set up Healthcare Clinics and
Community Development Programs and raise up Zambians to take the
gospel throughout Africa and the world. Stanley and Priscilla Banda
are the base leaders and had spent a few years in Melbourne linking
and serving with the base. They now form our Zambian team and
contact in Zambia. Julius Village This village quite close to the
Lusaka base has been engaged by the base. The village numbers over
800 people and has suffered severely from the lack of rain and the
scourge of disease. A Community Development team from YWAM
Melbourne was able to assess and research their plight so others
will be better equipped to effectively bring God's will to bear in
their village. Opportunities for Urban and Rural Evangelism,
Primary Healthcare, Community Development, Orphan and school
ministries and Church planting are limitless. Thailand Chiang Rai
is a small town in Northern Thailand, surrounded by Hilltribe
villages and is a centre for the abduction and enslavement of
children and young women in the prostitution trade. YWAM Chiang Rai
is involved in local community development, evangelism and
children's ministry for AIDS orphans. Home of the Open Heart This
ministry provides care for babies and children with or at risk of
AIDS. Penny Wilcox who was sent with her husband Paul and their
family from YWAM Melbourne, established the home in the year 2000.
The ministry also assists families to care for infants in the
community through providing income generating projects and support
to enable a family to care and provide for orphaned infants in the
community. There are opportunities for ministry in the area of
Community Development, Primary Healthcare, Evangelism, English
teaching and Children's ministries. Nepal Nepal is a Hindu Kingdom
and one of the world's poorest countries. It has been crippled with
political instability and the devastating war with Maoist rebels..
YWAM Melbourne has been involved with Nepal since 1996,
establishing a ministry to muslims. Based in Kathmandu, the
ministry has already seen 60 conversions and 5 home churches
created nationally. YWAM Melbourne also partners with YWAM Dharan
in equipping Nepalis for World Missions. They have recently
established an outreach to Bhutanese refugees and have run the
first Bhutanese DTS's in the world. There are desperate needs for
community development and evangelism. YWAM Nepal has ministry
opportunities in Training, Church mobilisation and Evangelism.
Malaysia East Malaysia is a part of the large island of Borneo. It
neighbors Brunei and Indonesian Kalimantan. Apart from scattered
hilltribe animists, Borneo is dominated by Islam. There are few
Christians who are treated with suspicion. YWAM runs children's
camps and has many contacts in villages for evangelism
opportunities, in which YWAM Melbourne sends regular short term
teams. Mark and Tammy Baker were involved with YWAM Melbourne
before going to East Malaysia where they work in a children's
ministry. A communist country in Asia This is one of the world's
most populated countries and has at least 56 different people
groups. Two-thirds of the people in this country work as farmers,
growing rice as their primary crop. This country is a communist
republic where Christianity has been suppressed and restricted.
Many Christian have been imprisoned, tortured and killed for their
faith in Jesus. Despite the persecution, the church here is growing
at a phenomenal rate. Bibles are now being printed here but not
enough to meet demand. Bryan and Shelley Redmon and their 3
children are serving in this country.
